The Annapolis Shambhala Meditation Centre
Shambhala in Annapolis
The Annapolis Centre was started in 1994 and continues to meet weekly on Sunday morning to practice from 9:00 – 10:30 A.M.at the Granville Ferry Community Hall at 5352 Granville Road just a few km from Annapolis Royal. Our centre is a composed of members and friends that include dedicated senior teachers who have studied the Shambhala Buddhist path for many years and those new to the study and practice of meditation. Our practice is based on acknowledging the basic goodness in all of us which is the basis of enlightened society.
We believe that, through meditation, we discover and cultivate a wisdom and kindness for ourselves and society. We hope our website will answer some general questions, and also give you a glimpse into our community and our approach to meditation. Please reach out to us for more information or any questions you may have.
Everyone is welcome at the centre. Our intent is to help people of all traditions discover their inherent sanity, gentleness and humour. We are committed to offering teachings on meditation with the view of fundamental worthiness, and goodness. For those new or unfamiliar with meditation we recommend meeting with one of our instructors first, so you start with some idea of our approach to practice.
Meditation Instruction
Meditation instruction is available to anyone interested and is an opportunity to gain insights that, with an instructor, helps with exploring the meditation experience.
If you would like personal meditation instruction, or if you have tried meditation and would like further support, you may want to meet with one of ours at the Centre. For anyone new to meditation it can help and may also be valuable for those more experienced to review basic principles and practices of meditation.
Meetings with an instructor are based on friendship, mentoring and confidentiality. Getting together can range from once or twice for clarification or specific questions about your practice and meditation. For some an instructor becomes someone that helps them connect their practice to innate dignity, kindness and wisdom. This support is free and ongoing and intended to help us as we explore our sitting experience.
If you’re interested in arranging a meeting click on the link below which leads to a Contact form. Fill it out and select Request a Meditation Instructor under Whom to Contact.
AT THE HEART OF EVERY STEP WE TAKE
Our Mission
At the Centre we acknowledge the inherent goodness of humanity and the natural world, and want to provide everyone the opportunitiy to practice the Buddhist teachings of the Kagyu, Nyingma, and Shambhala traditions.
Our community gathers around the Shambhala vision: that we all share a fundamental nature of basic goodness. This nature can be brought into daily life so that it radiates out to family, friends, community, and society.
In this time of great difficulty for ourselves, society, and the planet, we practice together to discover our innate kindness and confidence, so that we can help create compassionate, sustainable, and just human societies.
